Tendo começado a tocar guitarra aos dez anos de idade, na década de 1980 foi expulso de alguns bares por não saber tocar, o dono do bar alegava que ele só sabia fazer barulho.
Ambidestro, Michael consegue tocar duas guitarras ao mesmo tempo, em harmonias sincronizadas ou separadas. Ele é o inventor da guitarra de dois braços opostos em forma de "V", a Double V-Neck, e da guitarra de quatro braços em forma de "X", a Quad Guitar X-400, que ele utilizou enquanto estava em turnê com a banda Nitro, no fim da década de 1980.
Sua extraordinária destreza o permite tocar sua guitarra com um som fluente e limpo. A revista Guitar One elegeu Michael como o melhor guitarrista e mais rápido do mundo, numa votação em 2003.
Michael também é conhecido pela simpatia, geralmente passa bastante tempo distribuindo autógrafos, posando para fotos e conversando com fãs. Ele também tem aconselhado jovens guitarristas que o têm consultado, notadamente em suas clínicas mundo afora. Texto: Wikipédia.
