Freddie King (3 de setembro de 1934 - 28 de dezembro de 1976),

de blues e cantor americano. Ele é frequentemente citado como um dos "Três Reis"
da guitarra elétrica de blues, juntamente com Albert King e BB King, sendo o
mais jovem dos três.
Freddie King baseou seu estilo de guitarra em influências do blues Texas e do blues de Chicago e foi um dos primeiros cantores de blues a ter uma banda de apoio multirracial com ele no palco. Ele é mais conhecido por singles como "Have You Ever Loved A Woman" (1960) e seu hit Top 40 "Hide Away" (1961). Início da vida e variação do nome.
Quando King tinha apenas seis anos, sua mãe, Ella Mãe, e seu tio começaram a ensinar Freddie a tocar violão. No Outono de 1949, King e sua família se mudaram de Dallas para o lado sul de Chicago. Em 1952, King começou a trabalhar em uma usina de aço, no mesmo ano em que casou com a conterrânea do Texas, Jessie Burnett, com quem ele acabou por ter seis filhos.

Carreira.
1950.
Logo que se mudou para Chicago, King começou a frequentar casas noturnas do lado Sul da cidade, onde ouviu blues tocados por Muddy Waters, Howlin 'Wolf, T-Bone Walker, Elmore James, e Sonny Boy Williamson. King montou sua primeira banda, a Every Hour Blues Boys, com o guitarrista Jimmie Lee Robinson e o baterista Frank "Sonny" Scott. Em 1952, enquanto trabalhava na fábrica de aço, King, então com 18 anos de idade, ocasionalmente, trabalhava como “sideman” (substituto) com bandas como o Little Sonny Cooper Band e Earl Payton’s Blues Cats. Em 1953, ele gravou com o último (Earl Payton’s Blues Cats) para Parrot Records, mas essas gravações nunca foram lançadas. Federal Records.
Em 1959, King conheceu Sonny Thompson, o pianista, produtor e A&R (responsável pela pesquisa de talentos e desenvolvimento artístico dos músicos) da King Records de Cincinnati e o produtor de King, Syd Nathan o vinculou ao selo Federal em 1960. King gravou seu single de estreia para o selo em 26 de agosto de 1960: "Have You Ever Loved a Woman", apoiado com "You've Got to Love Her with a Feeling" (mais uma vez como "Freddy" King). Na mesma sessão de gravação nos estúdios de King, em Cincinnati, Ohio, King gravou a instrumental "Hide Away", que no ano seguinte chegou a # 5 nas R&B Charts (gráfico semanal das canções mais executadas) e # 29 na Pop Singles Charts (lista de popularidade), um feito inédito para um instrumental de blues. "Hide Away" foi lançado originalmente como lado B de "I Love the Woman". O título da canção vem do Mel’s Hide Away Lounge, um clube de blues popular no West Side de Chicago. Desde então "Hide Away" se tornou um padrão de blues.
Depois do sucesso com "Hide Away", King e Sonny Thompson gravaram 30 instrumentais, incluindo "The Stumble", "Jut Pickin", "Sen-Sa-Shun", "Side Tracked", "San-Ho-Zay" "High Rise" e "The Triste Nite Owl". O contrato de King com a Federal Records expirou em 1966, e sua primeira turnê no exterior se deu em 1968. A disponibilidade de King foi notada pelo produtor e saxofonista King Curtis, que havia gravado um cover de "Hide Away", com Cornell Dupree na guitarra em 1962. Curtis vinculou King à Atlantic em 1968, o que resultou em dois LPs, “Freddie King ia a Blues Master” (1969) e “My Feeling fos the Blues” (1970), produzido por Curtis para a Cottilion Records, subordinada à Atlantica.

Estilo de tocar e técnica.
King teve um estilo intuitivo, muitas vezes criando partes de guitarra com nuances vocais. Conseguiu isso usando o som de open string (técnica de violão) associado ao Texas Blues e os tons crus e gritantes do blues do West Side de Chicago. No início de sua carreira, ele tocava uma Gold Top Gibson Les Paul com captadores P-90 através de um amplificador Gibson GA-40, depois passou para guitarras Gibson ES-345, usando uma palheta plástica no polegar e uma de metal dedo indicador para conseguir um ataque agressivo dos dedos, um estilo que aprendeu com Jimmy Rogers. Ele tinha um estilo relativamente mais agressivo e criativo de improvisação do que outros, como, BB King e Albert King, considerado por muitos como uma abordagem mais exploratória e menos tradicional.
Os anos seguintes de King (após 1970) foram marcados por uma mudança para mais um estilo mais hard, um rock-like style, presumivelmente, em um esforço para alcançar melhor o público branco. Ele também deixou de produzir, simplesmente tocando covers em de B.B King e outros músicos de blues
Morte.
Permanecer em constantes turnês teve seus efeitos sobre King (ele estava na estrada quase 300 dias do ano), e em 1976, ele começou a sofrer de úlceras estomacais. Sua saúde se deteriorou rapidamente e ele morreu em 28 de dezembro de complicações de uma pancreatite aguda, com 42 anos.
De acordo com os que o conheceram, a morte prematura de King foi devido tanto ao estresse quanto à má alimentação (ele tinha o hábito de consumir Bloody Marys, em vez de alimentos sólidos para não perder tempo durante a preparação para os shows).
Prêmios e reconhecimento.
Em 1993, por iniciativa da Governadora do Texas, Ann Richards, foi criado o Freddie King’s Day, comemorado no dia 3 de setembro. Tal homenagem é reservada apenas para grandes estrelas texanas (Lone Star) como, por exemplo, Bob Wills e Buddy Holly.
Freedie King foi considerado, pela revista Rolling Stone, o 15º entre os 100 maiores guitarristas de todos os tempos.
