David Crosby - Discografia.

David Van Cortlandt Crosby (14 de agosto de 1941 - 19 de janeiro de 2023) foi um guitarrista, cantor e compositor dos Estados Unidos, mais conhecido por ter sido um dos fundadores das bandas The Byrds e Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young.

Cantor legendário, compositor e ativista social, David Crosby já foi induzido duas vezes ao Rock’n’Roll Hall of Fame, tanto como membro da icônica banda de folk-rock The Byrds – banda que o lançou ao estrelato –, como da banda que definiu a era do Woodstock, Crosby, Stills & Nash. Californiano nativo e filho de cineasta, Crosby originalmente tinha intenções de se tornar ator quando se mudou de Santa Barbara para Los Angeles na década de 60. A música prevaleceu e Crosby começou sua carreira como cantor folk, tocando em clubes e cafés por todo o país. De volta a Los Angeles no ano de 63, Crosby formou a banda The Byrds com Roger McGuinn, Chris Hillman, Gene Clark e Michael Clarke, ganhando um amplo reconhecimento por suas composições e presença carismática. Impulsionado por sucessos como “Eight Miles High”, “Turn! Turn! Vire! e “Mr. Tambourine Man”, a banda The Byrds influenciou incontáveis músicos.

Crosby deixou o The Byrds em 1967 para embarcar em uma colaboração com Graham Nash e Stephen Stills. Famosa por harmonias vocais, musicalidade peculiar e canções modernas, Crosby, Stills, Nash (CSN) tem sido chamada de “a voz de uma geração”. Eles foram homenageados no Grammy em 1969 como “Best New Artist”. O álbum auto intitulado de estreia do trio apresentou clássicos, incluindo faixas que Crosby escreveu (como “Guinnevere” e “Wooden Ships”) – hoje, esse álbum está na lista da Rolling Stone dos 500 Melhores Álbuns de Todos os Tempos.

Crosby continua a fazer turnês e gravar com a CSN, assim como com a outra formação Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, e com o duo formado com Graham Nash. Como artista solo, Crosby estreou com sua obra-prima “If Only I Could Remember My Name”, em 1971, que recentemente foi reeditada como um conjunto de dois discos, incluindo imagens de vídeo e outros bônus. David Crosby também grava com o CPR, trio com sabor de jazz que ele formou em 1995 com seu filho James Raymond e Jeff Pevar.

Crosby também é o autor de três livros, incluindo: “Making Music, Making History”, “The Dramatic Story of the Artists” e “Causes That Changed America”, reforçando o seu compromisso com o ativismo social. Além disso, ele escreveu dois volumes autobiográficos: “Long Time Gone” e “Since Then: How I Survived Everything And Lived To Tell About It,” que, de acordo com a Entertainment Weekly, conta a história de “uma vida fascinante digna de sequência”.
