Carreira.
Começou sua carreira tocando em diversas bandas de música country em Norfolk, Virgínia, depois de deixar a Marinha dos Estados Unidos com uma lesão permanente na perna. Assinou contrato com a Capitol Records com sua banda de apoio, The Blue Caps.
Depois que "Be-Bop-A-Lula" transformou-se num grande sucesso em 1956, Gene Vincent & os Blue Caps não conseguiram emplacar outros hits de tamanha repercussão, mas tiveram uma carreira pontilhada de sucessos como:
"Bluejean Bop", "Race With the Devil", "Lotta Lovin'", "Crazy Legs" et "Baby Blue". Vincent inclusive foi um dos primeiros astros de rock a estrelar um filme, chamado The Girl Can't Help It.
Um fato marcante na carreira do cantor foi a morte de seu melhor amigo Eddie Cochran em um acidente automobilistíco, durante uma turnê que ambos faziam pela Inglaterra no ano de 1960. Gene que também estava no veículo teve a antiga lesão de sua perna agravada e até o fim de sua vida não se recuperou psicologicamente do ocorrido.
A carreira de Gene teve uma enorme perda de popularidade a partir da metade dos anos 60, com a chegada das "english bands", embora ele continuasse a fazer sucesso na Europa, principalmente na Inglaterra e França.
Passou os últimos anos de sua vida tentando reconquistar o antigo sucesso, mas acabou afundando-se cada vez mais no álcool e na depressão. Faleceu na Califórnia em 1971, de cirrose gástrica.
Gene Vincent está sepultado no Eternal Valley Memorial Park em Newhall, Califórnia.
Forma junto com Buddy Holly e Eddie Cochran a quintessencia do rockabilly, sendo sem sombra de dúvidas, os maiores nomes do gênero. Texto: Wikipédia.
