Desde 1992, ele é o apresentador do “Later... com Jools
Holland”, um programa exibido na BBC2, que mistura música ao vivo e gravada com
bate-papo geral e apresenta convidados do estúdio, juntamente com membros de sua
orquestra, no qual seu show anual, Hootenanny é baseado. Holland é um autor
publicado e aparece em programas de televisão além dos seus e contribui para
programas de rádio. Em 2004, colaborou com Tom Jones em um álbum de música
tradicional de R&B.
Holland tocou como músico de sessão antes de encontrar fama, e
sua primeira sessão de estúdio foi com “Wayne County & The Electric Chairs”
em 1976 na faixa "Fuck Off". Foi um membro fundador da banda pop britânica
“Squeeze”, formada em março de 1974, na qual tocou teclados até 1981 e ajudou a
banda a alcançar milhões de vendas de discos, antes de seguir carreira
solo.
Ele começou a lançar discos solo em 1978, sendo seu primeiro EP,
”Boogie Woogie”, de 1978. Continuou sua carreira solo no início dos 80s,
lançando um álbum e vários singles entre 1981 e 1984. Logo após, transferiu-se
para a TV, apresentando o show “The Tube” com Paula Yates. Alcançou notoriedade
usando inadvertidamente a frase "esteja lá, ou seja um filho da puta" em um
programa ao vivo em dois canais, , fazendo com que fosse suspenso por seis
semanas. Holland também apareceu como convidado na MTV.
Em 1983, Holland tocou um extenso solo de piano na regravação de
“The Uncertain Smile”, da banda “The The” para o álbum “Soul Mining”. Em 1985, a
banda “Squeeze” (que continuara a existir, apesar da ausência de Holland até
1982) inesperadamente se reagrupou, incluindo Holland como tecladista. Ele
permaneceu na banda até 1990, altura em que novamente saiu para retomar sua
carreira solo como músico e apresentador de TV.
Em 1987, formou a Jools Holland Big Band, que girava em torno de
si e Gilson Lavis da banda “Squeeze”. Isso gradualmente acabou por dar origem ao
combo “Jools Holland's Rhythm and Blues Orchestra”, com 18 integrantes.
Entre 1988 e 1990, ele se apresentou e foi apresentador,
juntamente com David Sanborn, das duas temporadas do programa musical “Sunday
Night” na NBC, durante a madrugada. Desde 1992, ele apresenta o programa musical
“Later... com Jools Holland”, além de um programa de véspera de Ano Novo,
“Hootenanny”.
Em 1996, Holland assinou um contrato de gravação com a "Warner
Bros Records” e seus discos agora são comercializados pela “Rhino
Records”.
Em 29 de novembro de 2002, Holland estava no grupo de músicos
que se apresentou no “Concert for George”, celebrando a música do falecido
George Harrison. Em janeiro de 2005, Holland e sua banda se apresentaram com
Eric Clapton como o principal ato do “Tsunami Relief Cardiff”.
A Orquestra Rhythm and Blues inclui os cantores Louise Marshall
e Ruby Turner e seu irmão mais novo, cantor e compositor e tecladista,
Christopher Holland.
No dia 4 de junho de 2012, Holland se apresentou no “Queen's
Jubilee Concert”, no exterior do Palácio de Buckingham, em Londres. Também em
junho de 2012, ele apresentou um programa sobre as canções populares de Londres
na BBC2.
Em 24 de junho de 2017, Holland e sua Orquestra apresentaram-se
no "Pyramid Stage" no Festival de Glastonbury, que incluiu uma aparição especial
de Chris Difford, um membro atual de sua banda anterior, “Squeeze”.
Em novembro de 2017, ele lançou um novo álbum, “As You See Me
Now”, trabalhando ao lado de Jose Feliciano e embarcou em uma turnê com
ingressos sempre esgotados para 33 shows no Reino Unido. Em muitas entrevistas,
Jools descreveu Feliciano como seu verdadeiro herói, dizendo: "Quando ouvi sua
música, ela teve o mesmo efeito em mim como Ray Charles, The Beatles e Motown.
Ouvir Jose cantar e tocar era como uma flecha no meu coração”.
Em 29 de agosto de 2005, Holland casou-se com Christabel McEwen,
sua namorada de 15 anos e filha do artista Rory McEwen. Holland mora na área de
“Westcombe Park”, em “Blackheath”, no sudeste de Londres, onde teve seu estúdio,
“Helicon Mountain”, construído em seu design e inspirado em “Portmeirion”,
cenário da série de TV de 1960, “The Prisoner”. Ele também é dono de uma mansão
perto do castelo medieval “Cooling Castle”, em Kent.
Ele recebeu um OBE em 2003 na lista divulgado no Honra do
Aniversário da Rainha, por serviços para a indústria da música britânica como
apresentador de televisão e músico. Em setembro de 2006, foi nomeado

Laughing Prisoner”, com Stephen Fry, Terence Alexander e Hugh Laurie. Grande
parte foi gravada localmente em “Portmeirion”, com imagens de arquivo de Patrick
McGoohan, com apresentação de números musicais das bandas “Siouxsie &
Banshees”, “Magnum” e “XTC". Holland realizou um número no final do
programa.
Holland foi entrevistador do projeto de TV "The Beatles
Anthology" e apareceu no filme de 1997, “Spiceworld”, como diretor
musical.
Em 2008, ele encomendou a série de TV “Bangla Bangers (Chop
Shop)” para criar uma réplica do Rover JET1 (antigo carro fabricado em 1950)
para seu uso pessoal.
Sua autobiografia lançada em 08 de outubro de 2007, “Barefaced
