Ele viveu por muito tempo na Florida e alguma parte do seu tempo, também em sua casa na montanha na Carolina do Norte.Lavoie nasceu no dia 31 de Julho de 1943 no Tallahassee, Florida. Ele é um dos sete filhos criados em Winter Heaven, Florida, na parte central dos EUA. Ele conta que sua mãe foi uma cantora em uma banda e que nunca conheceu seu pai verdadeiro. Ele veio descobrir mais tarde que seu pai tinha sido um guitarrista em uma banda, daí ele reconhecer que seu interesse pela musica veio doa pais.
Em 1961 ele foi convidado a fazer parte de uma banda chamada “The Rumors”, a primeira banda de rock and roll em Winter Haven, onde tocavam musicas como Runaway, de Del Shannon, canções dos The Venturies, entre outras. Faziam parte desta banda, Jim Stafford e Gram Parsons, que mais tarde formaram o conjunto “The Byrds”. Também fez parte de uma outra banda da cidade chamada “The Legends”. Mais tarde quando ambas as bandas foram desfeitas, Stafford e Parsons convidaram LaVoie para fazer parte na renovada banda “The Rumors”.
Parsons morreu muito jovem e Stafford formaria mais tarde com LaVoie, o conjunto “Spiders and Snakes”, e fizeram muito sucesso. Isto aconteceu enquanto ele estava cursando a Universidade da Florida do Sul, onde LaVoie conheceu Phil Gernhard. Gernhard que tinha levado Maurice Williams e “The Zodiacs” ao grande sucesso "Stay" e que produziria também Dion em "Abraham Martin and John". Gravaria o primeiro disco de sucesso de Lobo chamado "The Sugar Beats".
LaVoie enquanto escrevia canções, um dia precisou encontrar alguma coisa que rimasse com “Me and You” e foi então que olhou para seu cão pastor alemão chamado "Boo", através da porta de vidro. Nascia "Me And You And A Dog Named Boo", que se tornou um sucesso e iniciava sua magnífica carreira internacional, chegando a vender cerca de 20 milhões de discos no mundo e ficando em algumas paradas de sucesso no inicio dos anos 70.
Vieram a seguir os sucessos "I'd Iove You To Want Me", "Don't Expect Me To Be Your Friend", "Don't Tell Me Goodnight", "How Can I Tell Her", entre outros. Lobo mais tarde passou a gravar pela Warner Brother Records e pela MCA Records no final dos anos 70 e em 1979 alcançou novamente sucesso com a canção "Where Were You When I Was Falling In Love?". Durante os anos 80, ele compôs canções para alguns artistas country como Joe Stampley and Christy Lane.
A popularidade do LOBO tornou-se recentemente maior no mercado asiático, principalmente devido as suas recentes gravações em novos álbuns, pela Ponycanyon Records, fora de Singapore, intitulado "Asian Moon" e também a uma coletânea de sucessos no álbum chamado "Classics" que incluem além dos seus sucessos mais antigos, várias gravações de clássicos já consagrados, como "The End Of The World", "Dream Lover", "Will You Still Love Me Tomarrow" entre outros. Ele também lançou recentemente, um álbum com novas canções chamado "Sometimes" gravado em Nashville, Tennessee em um dos melhores estúdios de gravação do mundo.
Seu mais novo disco intitulado "You Must Remeber This” foi gravado na nova gravadora “ Springroll”, em conjunto com a “ Ponycanyon Records”. Este álbum é uma coleção de antigos sucessos, tais como, "Teach Me Tonight ", "PS I Love You", "Moonglow”, entre outros. Lobo tem estado frequentemente na Ásia, divulgando seus discos e mantendo sua audiência. Recentemente, ele se apresentou em Ho Chin Min City, no Vietnam, para uma grande plateia, mantendo sua performance de pop star.
Suas grandes canções e seus grandes álbuns, sempre continuam fazendo sucesso. Lobo deixa assim, um legado de grandes trabalhos, mas como se costuma dizer: “Nunca é o fim, até que tudo termine”, e ele ainda planeja por muitos anos continuar escrevendo e gravando. Texto: Last FM.
